RCSHS Concert Band

Concert Band  2834 1 Credit (meets 7th period)

This is the primary performing instrumental music organization at RCSHS. All students should have their own instrument (with the exception of a few large and expensive instruments) as well as a metronome. The ensemble will learn about music through the performance of challenging band literature of varying styles from different historical periods as well as recently composed works. This group will perform two concerts per semester, as well as perform for ratings at the KMEA District and State Concert Band Festival and will take an overnight trip in the spring to a major city with a performance built in. It will also perform for various school and community functions.    Members of this group may also participate in State, District and University sponsored honor bands. Members will also be encouraged to participate in the KMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival. Some after school section specific rehearsals and full band rehearsals will be required in order to coordinate music with the percussion sections.   Beginning with the RCSHS graduating class of 2012, any student who is in high school concert band must participate in marching band unless a school related conflict (ex. Fall sports) approved by the band director or a doctor approved medical problem would prevent them from doing so.
